$99 CVS CRAIG CMP738a 7″ Wireless Touchscreen Android Tablet Overview

by ModemRouter on February 2, 2012

Craig 7" Widescreen Touchscreen Wireless Tablet from CVS Pharmacy I picked up this tablet from CVS Pharmacy for my son. He wants to play with my droid phone and my iPad so i thought i would check this out so he can play games on it. I initially used it for about a day with the stock 2.1 android firmware but i didnt like the marketplace that was included and it was buggy.. slow to touch as you will see in the video.. So i did some research and found online people were upgrading the firmware to android 2.1. So I did the same thing and now it has the normal Android marketplace and plays games.. etc.. Here is some information about the tablet.. Cost: $99 (minus 25% coupon) = $75+tax icon smile $99 CVS CRAIG CMP738a 7 Wireless Touchscreen Android Tablet Overview Where: CVS Pharmacy. @BlueRidgeRuckus hey i just noticed you have a launcher running..what is it called?

BlueRidgeRuckus February 2, 2012 at 8:13 pm

@farcher3 – yah.. some of the things i seen about the Craig from Craig i wonder did they do that on purpose or was someone just pulling stuff out of their ass.. There are numerous forums online that have a community and they continue to work on the Craig both versions.. google search and good luck :)

farcher3 February 2, 2012 at 9:00 pm

@BlueRidgeRuckus That’s too bad. I looked in the OS for the tablet and they mention that an ethernet cabke can be hooked up to it. Lynux can configure the adapter no problem. Too bad Adnroid can’t. Oh well, I’ll keep looking. Thank your for trying to help. I love your video. It ws great.

BlueRidgeRuckus February 2, 2012 at 9:48 pm

@farcher3 – the problem you will come across is the driver.. i dont think the craig will have the drive to control the usb ethernet adapter.

farcher3 February 2, 2012 at 10:39 pm

@BlueRidgeRuckus I’ll have to try that! I have a new router so I’ll see if that will work. I have another question though. The manual says you can put an ethernet cable on it. Is that true? I have a trendnet usb to ethernet adapter. Can I plug that into the usb port and connect that way if the wireless solution you sent me fails?

BlueRidgeRuckus February 2, 2012 at 11:32 pm

@farcher3 – Have you guys tried to set your wireless router on a specific channel? say channel 11 or 1.. i just read on a forum and one guy was having problems connecting.. what he did was go into his router and change it from ‘automatic’ channel to a set channel.. once he did that he had no problems connecting.. now mine is set to automatic and i have used my craig on a buffalo router, netgear router, and linksys with no problems.

@btzkh Yeah, I just got this tablet and I also have a problem with the WIFI. Even when I am right next to the router, I can’t cpnnect. The manual is no help at all. But if the guy in this vid can connect I may I should be able to. We should wait and the answer should come up on a forum. I thought it was just me.

@BlueRidgeRuckus Yeah. I agree. Irons have the same cancer warning. I called tech support for another device with that warning and basically there is only a cancer hazzard if the cord is frayed somehow. This is good tablet for the price. Especially if you get to buy it at a discount.

I had one of these tablets and returned it soon after and bought an iPod Touch 8Gb.

Here’s a quick breakdown from my point of view. The tablet certainly does what it is intended to. It gets you online, it plays video, and it can use a few (very few) apps at a playable frame rate and speed.

If you’re like me and you want to play apps. This tablet will let you play some very basic apps, but it wont run things like AB Rio or AB Seasons over more than about .5 fps

For basic internet. this works.

ddrmaxman February 3, 2012 at 2:47 am

@jnh0205 It plays Angry birds alright, but it lags very bad with Angry Birds Rio (My personal favorite) and Angry Birds Seasons. It doesn’t go over .5 frames a second.

@TheJaGiChannel its rooted, so instead of the modified OS the creators of the product put on it, it has stock android OS

TheJaGiChannel February 3, 2012 at 3:51 am

how do you get the android market app?

BlueRidgeRuckus February 3, 2012 at 4:27 am

@btzkh – I had this problem right after purchase.. however doing some research i found a few people with that problem and they stated doing a hard shutdown after entering your wireless information and the wireless worked.. after i rooted mine i never had that problem again.

BlueRidgeRuckus February 3, 2012 at 5:19 am

funny how some people think this tablet is a POS when its not an iPad.. its a cheap droid tablet.. it does what its supposed to do.. as for the cord exposing you to lead.. the warning states this for precautionary purposes.. im sure most manufacturers dont even tell you about this.. but either way.. i am not going to chew on the cord or lick my fingers after charging.. the button problem could be easily fixed..

kingokings1982 February 3, 2012 at 5:26 am

this tablet was a piece of shit. the power button pushed in and wouldnt come out. cord exposes you to lead. bought it for christmas as a quuck gift type of thing. took it back. got something better

tasha75670 February 3, 2012 at 5:39 am

@btzkh me too im having the same problem

brat46 February 3, 2012 at 6:32 am

I got this for Christmas and I think this is a piece of junk.

btzkh February 3, 2012 at 7:17 am

I have one of these tablets but have been unable to connect to wifi. Has anyone else had this problem?

mrsnina99 February 3, 2012 at 8:03 am

I bought this and 2 of the netbooks for christmas. I had to return them because on the back of the tablet and net book there is a warning stating that handling the cord that recharges them exposes you to lead and to wash your hands after each use. I purchased my at rite aid and they had no problem giving my money back. BUYERS PLEASE BEWARE!!!!

taichi29 February 3, 2012 at 8:10 am
